yes one of the reasons we bought ours is that the previous owner had ripped out the carpet and put in wood flooring. It looks great and since we travel with puppies much eaiser to keep clean. I added new suspenion springs last week. I oredered them and my local mechanic put them own. Really leveled out the old motorhome and raised her up about 8 inches. We plan to be on the road next week. TBARFARMS/jt

Welcome to all the new members.  This is a friendly knowledgable group.

Well, we moved past one thousand members with ease.  The site is growing quickly now and there is more and more information available.

There is a lot of knowledge on this forum.  Right now a lot of folks are traveling trying to enjoy the weather a little before it gets cold.  Ask any question you want and then be patient.  Someone will answer it.  When the Winter hits there will be a lot more activity on the forum.  Maybe we'll get the "Chat Room" going again.

Hi there! I didn't see a place to actually post a new thread so I thought I would reply to your post.

We just bought our first rv, it's a classic. We love the "old school" style and have been looking to buy for a year now with a specific budget. We found what we were looking for....1982 Class C Mobile Traveler Chevy with a 350 motor. Now, I might sound silly with all that info as I don't know a whole lot about rv's yet, but I am quickly learning. My family has rv's and I have learned some from them.

We are calling her "Good Times" as it seems to fit the old style. She needs a little work, but just cosmetic inside. The roof on the Cab Over is bad in several spots from old water leaks. My brother-in-law and I are going to fix that this weekend as we just did his a couple of months ago.

The fuel gauge and gear shift gauge don't work. Dash A/C doesn't work, but over head A/C blows cold as ice. 3 running lights on the cab are out, but the others work so it is just bulb replacement there I believe. Carpet inside is old and stained...easy fix. Windows are all new except on the cab over. All appliances work great. Bathroom is really nice as they just redid it all including new water lines.

Mechanical components are in great shape. She starts up the first try everytime. Brakes, hoses, etc are all in great shape.

We want to replace the back door....(what do you call it in RV terminology?). It was rigged with a plexi-glass window and doesn't shut properly. You have to lift the door to shut it and the outside handle is broken. Also, the ignition key doesn't work to lock and unlock the doors. Did those models come with two keys if anyone knows?

Well, that is about it for now. I am heading out to work on my first project on her. Pulling out carpet and deep cleaning. Wish me luck. I look forward to chatting with all of you!

Ummm...how about..... back door?

Sorry guys, Amanda's my friend, had to pick on her....
and she's totally excited about finally getting an old style rv!
Sounds good when it's running, too....

Oh and did these old class C's come with a cig lighter? She needs somewhere to plug in the GPS and I think that means a schematic.... there's a tangle of wires over the doghouse... where a piece of the lower dash is missing..
suggestions? Have to have the GPS since the gas gauge doesn't work....

Thanks
Mary

Cigarette lighter and 2 different keys one for ignition and one for doors. You can pick up a replacement cigarette lighter at any auto parts store or Wal-Mart even. mine even came with the in line splices.

Hey george, thank you for your help. What my friend was talking about with the cigarette lighter is that there is no place for one. It did not come with a cigarette lighter. We were trying to figure out how to put a brand new cigarette lighter connection etc in.

Also, I found a pretty neat RV store online that sells the entrance doors. I just would hate to buy one, have it shipped, only to find out that it isn't the right one. There are about 4 different sizes. Are they all pretty standard or have they changed over time. My rv is a 1982 Mobile Traveler.

Oh, we are going to start tearing out all the old carpet etc. Once we are done with a few fixer upper things inside we are going to lay down wood flooring....woooo hoooo

Also, our dog house is pretty plain, no cup holders, no pockets etc. We thought about putting a cup holder compartment on top and just attach a little canvas type pouch since there is no glove box in this thing.

I will post some pictures for everyone to see. Any suggestions I would loooooove to hear!!!

hi to all! Been tearing up and rebuilding a 1971 teton-AAck, AAck- new back end, new walls, new wiring and so far so good. I have torn out the old propane heater and am attempting to install a wood burning stove. Anyone else out there who went to these extremes?

Its been awhile since I was here. I had changed my name to Wallaby Dan from Capt. Dan but we are still working on "Dusty". My health has been getting worse and I am having other issues too. My ptsd and depression has been giving me a hard time and then the theft of our laptop kinda made us stay out of touch for awhile. We got a surprise and the old computer was recovered and we had to give back the new one to the insurance company. This one works a lot better than the new one we got!!!  I have a picture of me with the trooper and the hat and someone on another forum said I should be Wallaby Dan as it looked kinda like Aussie instead of American..Go figure. I really not done much this year as i was putting my efforts to the trailer and that worked out well! We used it for our first trip and it rode better than towing four down!! I also like the electric brakes too!! The coach had some more damaged stuff because I got to close to a tree and i tore the rubber membrane and I had to replace the back corners and the TV antenna, also the vent cover, the a/c cover and the skylight in the bathroom. I have the roof repaired, and have some parts here and more coming. Right now, I have more on my plate than i can handle with the doctors and my back and all, Not a very good Christmas or new year coming up for us. Taking it one day at a time....I am glad to have my Va hospital fairly close to me.  The trooper works great for me and i have come to find another use for the trailer. When we travel the brake controller will be in the coach while towing. when we go dry camping in the blm lands and state forests we can stay longer as I can take and hook up the brake controller and pull the trailer to town where ever and using portable tanks make my dumps for black tank and another tank for fresh water. We should be able to do the same with propane and anything else like a couple of g-cans for fuel. I am coming up with some great things to make use of now if my health returns and I get better i can get on with the finish on the home and get back to travel again. Anyway, That catches me up with whats happening, and hope things are going well with your rigs. Will check in later, Dan Happy Holidays!!!!
