Last Winter there was a lot of hub bub about LED tail lights on the web. I had been noticing them on a lot of semi's and on some of the newer cars, and they were definately a lot brighter. Especially in the day time. The problem was that not all lights are certified for automotive use in tail lights. That could lead to problems.
I ordered four of the small ninety degree bulbs from the internet and after trying them out was not satisified.

The unit was too small and only focused light in the center of the tail light. It was bright, but not big enough.
My next step involved searching for something larger that would adapt to the original tail lights. I found it at a Farm Supply Store. It is called Blazer LED tail lights for boat trailers. They are self contained sealed units that replace regular trailer lights.

By splitting the case open I removed the LED light board and with just a little trimming it would fit in the old light brackets.

I used four small rivets to fasten them to the bracket itself and set aside the old light pans. Not needed any more.
After wiring them in they were a vast improvement from the old lights.

The difference in the intensity is dramatic even in bright daylight. The only other thing is to buy a solid state signal flasher and replace the old one. These lights don't draw enough amps to activate the old flashers.
Had them for almost a year now, and I am well satisfied. I did see one fellow who was able to cut out the center of the red lens and glue in the center of the lens that they came with. It did look a little better, but I have no idea how the heck he did that or if they will hold.
