What? No one tows a trailer behind the Motor Home?? I guess it is up to me to start this thread!!
There was a old Coachmen Trailer,a 72 I think! Anyway, The grandchildren of my landlords and there friends had trashed the trailer so one of the landlords kids wanted to make a hauler for a job and started to make it into a flatbed trailer. He lost his job and I got the trailer for almost nothing. Out here they sale new for around $10000. 00 new and you can find them sometimes for a couple of grand used but this one was almost free so labor I can always find, Money is a whole different subject!! It is about 22 foot long, and and is fairly light. The pictures show all the trailer right now and I need to finish it. The fenders and the right side had been partually done but That had been a while. I got to the fenders and the winds are kicking up so I can't get a good weld so I am waiting for better weather! There are two pictures I will post here. It can haul My little storage shed,  33"X 57" and 50" high. and the Isuzu, with tools about 3900pds ands the trailer is about 800 pds right now but if I can  find what I need I can keep the weight down!  I want to find a couple of sections of runway ramp! That stuff the military uses on the beachs and other places where the soil is sandy. I need it to make the bed. I can use 2X6's for right now but the other stuff would be better!! Anyway, If it ever gets too high on fuel we can park it and turn it into a workshop/ storage shed!! Now if I can get the pictures to show, Dan

I don't know why but I can't get the pictures to show here?? And by the way.
The Motorhome can tow and hold up to 19000 pounds!! The Motorhome is under 13000 pounds and the trailer can be built for under 1200 pounds and I have a class 4 hitch and a stinger that is a 6000pd and it uses a 2 5/16" ball so that is good for 10000 pds and I should be under the 19000 pound limit!!

Oh I tow my boat trailer all the time.  What you are looking for is called PSP, (Pierced Steel Planking0.  We used it in VN for runways and its marvelous stuff.

Okay, I have to ask.  Does that trailer have a frame?  What I mean is, does it have the structural strength to support a vehicle?

If it was originally a travel trailer the floor didn't have to support much weight and wasn't necessarily built any stronger than that.

You may have to strengthen it to support the wieght that you  are plannig.

Yep, I have already reinforced the frame and it is still under 1000 pds so far. The main rails or frame is 1/8 th inch and the other add ons are 1/8 th or better. I have added 1/2" rebarb to help with the stresses of twisting. I also want that metal as it will add support to the frame.  The axles are rated at over 8000 pds so if the axles and frame were designed to hold that much weight then the trailer should be able to handle say 4000 pounds. This one was built in the days of the good steel and it is hard steel! Don't cut to easy!! I was looking at a friends trailer and they have 1/8 th inch steel as well and he was hauling a truck and a motorcycle on it so I know he had a bunch of weight there and he was using a diesel pusher to pull it! That truck was a full sized Ford F-150!! and the bike..A Harley!! I would say he was at around 6000 pounds and that would be almost what 7-8 thousand pounds total?? I am not going to haul that much weight! I think that  full sized Ford is too much!! I would have gone with a Ranger or something like that!!
Anyway, thanks for that info!! i am going to see if i can still find some as right now they are using that stuff in the gulf areas yet, I would think!! But I think it will be more than strong enough. thanks again, Dan

I will post a few pictures of the trailer here so you can see it better.

The first shows the nose end and you can see the trailer frame pretty well.

The second shows The back of the trailer with the holes for teh ramps and it isn't done yet there as I plan to add some angle Iron on it at the back to help with flexing after the frame was cut and also I need to mount lights a tag. Am using 1/8th " steel there.

The third is a picture of the fenders on the drivers side. I am using 1/8th " steel there as well So No rocks or?? CAN find its way to and glass or windshields!! Have new Mud Flaps that are 1/4" rubber and I have Iron on the bottom of the flap to keep it anti sail!!

I will be painting it white with Green trim to match the coach when done.

Sorry i got the posts backwords!! But I think you can see it. I am going to try and get one here that shows that back area. this one shows the ramps in the back side and I will reinforce that area with 1/8" steel! The ramp frames can be made out but they are just the frame I have to add the cross bars and weld a bunch!!! They are only four feet long.

Pardon me.  Sounds like you know what you're doing.  Should make a good trailer.

Hi, Well I hit a little snag today so the weather wins!!! I ground down the welds and laied some steel down to smooth and am ready for bondo now. I did get the right side fender sort welded but ran out of wire on teh weld so to the store later. I have a different job tomorrow so It may be Monday before I get to it again,
I did some checking around for the last couple of days and there is none of that steel around anywhere anymore. Seems that they decided to use it in that wall between the U.S. and Mexico!! There was one guy in I think it was Yuma that had..some but he was all sold out. Guess I will have to settle with wood. I went downtown today and checked out a place that makes and sales these trailers. They all use 1/8" steel in there construction. And they use wood with carrage bolts and washers on the top and lock nuts and the use Locktite on teh nuts as they put them on. So I will do the same I guess. That guy  said that the wood is lighter?? I am questioning that?? Anyway thats it for now, Dan

I got the old 110volt Mig Welder out to spot some of the fender in place so when I can tomorrow  get another roll of wire for that 220 Volt model. The 110 model uses gas and the 220 model is flux wire. But it welds soo much better than that old mig. It is fine for 1/16" steel but on anything else higher than that forget it. You can spot with it but that is about all I can do! I was also able to work on the nose of the trailer and figure out how far I need to go  to make room for the storage shed that fits on the trailer nose. It is 57" long and 33" deep and is about 5' tall. Its made by rubbermaid and will set up on the front of the trailer and the doors will be facing the truck so It can't be opened with the truck on it and going down the road! Need to clean up some slag that was left over from the old nose that the guy I got it from had welded on. Thats all for now. I'm getting there slow but sure, Dan

Well It has been a interesting week for me! We have had 8 jobs come in so I have been busy!! Have two left! Was going to go down and get a roll of MIG wire but the truck decided to switch the direction of the funds and I had to get a new alternator. Mine fried itself and we came back home faster than planned! I, with a little good luck will get the wire and paint for it by the first of the week! If that works out I can get it finished by next weekend!!!!

Our trailer took its first trip and handled perfectly!!  I liked it better than when towing all four down. I will give you a couple of shots or it .The storage pod still needs to be painter yet but i needed to move from where i was to another place. Safety reasons.
